Itchy Fingers are a Brighton-based classic rock band, playing oldies from the 50s onwards.
Our sound is electric guitar driven rock, with three-part, mixed vocal harmony, backed up by acoustic guitar, bass and drums. We are great for medium-sized or bigger venues, and perfect for headlining events or supporting a bigger band.
We regularly play both indoors and outside, and are fully equipped with everything needed to perform.
We are happy to travel in the south of England.
Mike first picked up a guitar at the age of 11. His early influences include James Taylor, Paul Simon and CSN&Y. He was performing as a singer/songwriter whilst studying at university when he met Pete - a guitarist who played in the style of Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore. Although their musical tastes differed, they ended up playing together in a number of different bands. After leaving university, they largely went their separate ways, but always kept in contact. It was only when Nik, Mike's son, had become a proficient drummer that the idea of getting back together with Pete (and Chris - a bass player Mike had taught during his school teaching days) for a bit of a jam was floated. And Itchy Fingers was born! Fourteen years later, the band, now with the wonderful singer, Melo, is an integral part of Mike's life - not just for the music, but for the friendships as well.
What began as a fun get together having backed off from playing for a few years has grown into a regular, terrifically enjoyable band life! I had played the guitar pretty obsessively from the age of about 10 until my early 30's, and then after what seemed like a lifetime of different bands / near misses / a recording contract / session work etc, the guitars were hung up, and music seemed to take a back seat for a while. It's personally a real shot in the arm (not a good analogy for the music biz I know!) that the guitars are now cleaned up rather than hung up, and I'm getting the chance to make a racket again on a fairly regular basis! Huge thanks to my fellow, inspiring band pals, and also our ever growing Itchy army who make the whole experience such a positive one!
I've been dribbling away in the low frequencies for over 30 years in various bands of all sorts. Itchy let's me get my rock on, and I play a vital role in looking after Pete.
I started playing drums and percussion when I was 11 and seem to have spent most of my time since staggering up or down flights of stairs with my kit or attempting to squeeze it into the poorly designed boot of a car. If anyone were ever to steal my macbook they would discover a bizarre collection of music in my iTunes and a deeply concerning infatuation with Gospel music. Itchy Fingers allows me to play out the rock stuff that lurks inside every drummer, and playing with Pete and Chris is always a pleasure and a privilege! I'm also a drummer for various jazz and funks bands.
As Itchy's newest band member, I very quickly wondered what on earth I'd let myself in for. I've since found the only way to survive the experience is to drink copious amounts of gin. I've been singing for over 20 years, with rockers, opera divas and theatre luvvies alike, yet nothing has ever quite prepared me for a bunch of misfits like these guys. Somehow, against all odds, I've grown rather fond of them, and I really enjoy the noise we make, so I guess I'll be enduring Itchy Fingers for a little while longer!
